•Aria and Perry meet up after several months apart; he brings her back to the Tides under the pretence that she's going to help them find the Still Blue. They decide to keep their relationship a secret. •The Tides don't take kindly to Aria's presence, mistrusting her (and now Perry) because she's part-Dweller. •During her marking ceremony, Aria's ink is poisoned, nearly killing her. •Perry exiles the man responsible, who has two young boys. •Aria and Roar take off during a mass exodus, as almost half of the Tides decide to leave with the man who has been exiled, disliking that Perry has chosen a Dweller over one of his own. •Aria and Roar travel to the Horns; Aria hoping to learn about the Still Blue so she can rescue Talon from the leader of the Dwellers, Hess, and Roar in order to see Liv having heard from a gossip that she made it to Sable after all. •Using her SmartEye to communicate with Hess, her signal is interrupted and she actually meets up with Soren, his son. He offers to help her discover the location of the Still Blue, in exchange for freeing him from Reverie. •Aria makes a deal with Sable, giving him access to Hess and Dweller technology, in exchange for information on the Still Blue. •When they try to leave the Horns with Liv, Liv is killed and Aria and Roar escape by falling out of a window into a river. •On their way back to the Tides, to inform Perry of their failure and his loss, Aria receives communication that the Dwellers are evacuating, but that most, including Talon, have been locked inside Reverie. •Meanwhile, Marron and some of his tribe show up at the Tides, their own compound having been overtaken by the Dispersed. •Shortly after Marron's arrival, the second half of Liv's dowry from Sable has arrived at the Tides, with 40 trained soldiers to help the tribe in any way required. •Perry decides to move the Tides into a cave, as the aether storms are growing in both intensity and frequency. •During a particularly bad aether storm, Cinder shows his abilities to the Tribe in order to protect them. •Shortly after, Perry is moving everyone to the cave; he leaves Cinder until the end, because of his weak state. •Cinder is taken by Sable's men, which is when Perry realizes that was their motivation to stay at the Tides the whole time. •Perry is tracking Cinder when he runs into Aria and Roar, who tell them of Liv's death and Talon's imprisonment. Perry sends Roar and Twig (his bodyguard) after Cinder while he and Aria head to the Pods.
Perry and Aria race to Reverie to find it mid-evacuation. Most soldiers pay them no mind, too intent to flee during a rather violent aether storm. During the fight with the soldiers who do notice them, Aria is grazed with a bullet.
They manage to break into the Pods, noticing that it is falling down around them and most of the Dwellers are still living in the Realms, refusing to deal with what's happening in the Real. They meet up with Soren, who has Talon and Clara (another Dweller taken from the Tides in exchange for food) and a bunch of Dwellers, including a couple of Aria's friends. They flee Reverie in a Dweller hovercraft, making their way to the Tides where Perry admits that he has discovered the location of the Still Blue: it's somewhere past the ocean, which is why Sable needed Hess and his Dweller technology to reach it. Soren informs them they also need to pass through a solid wall of Aether, which is when Perry realizes why Sable wanted Cinder. They reach the Tides' new location in the caves, and Perry and Aria agree to meet the tribe as a couple, the way they should have done it from the beginning.
