• Isaiah Campbell: Memphis' younger brother. He can sometimes see the future and knows what's on a playing card without seeing it.
• Ida Knowles: Inherited fancy mansion, but couldn't manage the estate on her own. When Mary White Blodgett offered to handle the residence, Knowles agreed. Eventually, this decision led to the slow loss of her sanity.
• John Jacob Call: He is the leader of a revived cult originally formed in the 1870's. In the novel, the cult is referred to as "The Brethren."
• Mary White Blodgett: sick and frail woman addicted to morphine
• Sam Lloyd: A street hussler that literally runs into Evie the first day she arrrives in New York. He is also a Diviner, with the power to go unnoticed simply by saying "don't see me." He works in the meuseum with Evie, and develops strong feelings for her. He's kind of a player and a troublemaker, and Evie does not want to be romantically involved with him.
• Octavia: Memphis and Isaiah's aunt. Extremely uptight and religiously devoted.
• Dottie: Evies' friend who lives in Zenith, Ohio. Not important in the grand scheme of the novel.
• Louise: Evies' friend from Zenith, Ohio. Not important in the grand scheme of the novel.
