“This is the first JA sequel to be published by the Chawton House Press, which in itself makes it somewhat distinguished among its contemporaries. The author, who is pseudonymous, spent 26 years researching for the novel, so it does have some cache as a JA sequel. However, having said all of that, about a hundred pages could have been cut from it. It was enjoyable, but the Darcys and Georgiana seem to do very little besides travel. Here, there, Scotland, a Grand Tour of Europe, etc., it’s just descriptions of ice fields and the Alps and inns and carriages for page after page after page. Rather tiring. Farmer weaves the JA novels together, having characters become friends, having Colonel Fitzwilliam fall perilously in love with Mary Crawford, etc., but the usual lines of the sequels play out, with Georgiana loving Fitzwilliam and the Darcys ending up with an heir, while Jane and Bingley seemingly procreate continuously. So, despite its distinctions, it was not the best sequel I’d read, though I appreciate its efforts at historical accuracy and description.”
