• Matthias the F**ker: "Martin O'Shay Thomas" - Former head of XOps; Jim's old boss; Was in Devina's well of souls; Given a second chance because the Maker decided Devina cheated in the previous round; Can only see out of his left eye, has scars all over his body and walks with a cane since he tried to kill himself with a bomb; A big, super-lean man with a strong jaw; Has black hair with a little gray at the temples; His left eye is blue and his right eye is milky white
• Mels Carmichael: "Melissa" - "Mellie" - A reporter at the Caldwell Courier Journal; 30 years old; Is tall with dark hair with copper highlights and beautiful eyes
• Helen Carmichael: Mels' mother; Thomas' widow; Is trim and small; Looks younger than her age; Has dark hair streaked with gray and bright green eyes
• Thomas Carmichael: Mels' father; Helen's husband; Was a police officer; Died three years ago in a car accident while on duty
