  • Miri Larensdaughter: The main female character. Friend and Lady to Princess Britta. Good at politics and speaking. She finds herself torn between her and Timon's cause and her friendship with Britta.
  • Peder Doterson: A boy from Mt. Eskel who has come to Asland to learn sculpturing. Miri has strong feelings for him.
  • Britta Paweldaughter: The princess who is betrothed to Prince Steffan. Many call her the "Robber Princess". She is friends with Miri. She's also really kind. She has known Prince Steffan all her life.
  • Prince Steffan: The prince of Asland, engaged to Britta
  • Katarina: The delegate from Mt. Eskel and one of the girls who attended the princess academy. She is often called Katar. She doesn't have any friends, but becomes nicer after she becomes a delegate.
  • Esa: Peder's sister and a Mt. Eskel girl who discovers the craft of medicine. She can't use her left arm because of an accident as a child. She had four siblings die.
  • King Bjorn: King of Asland, Steffan's father.
  • Queen Sabet: Queen of Asland, quiet, shy, and bit dipsy, or so it would seem.
  • Girti: One of the Mt. Eskel girls who is musically gifted. She is about 14.
  • Frid: One of the Mt. Eskel girls who enjoys working in the forge. She is the tallest young girl in the village.

  • Lady Sisela: A woman who hold meetings in her Salon (a room in her house) whom Miri sees as a mother-figure.
  • Timon Skarpson: A young man who studies at Queens College with Miri. He grows to have strong feelings for Miri and their cause that could change the country.
  • Gummonth: The Kings advisor, a nasty, surly man who does not seem to care for the Mt. Eskel girls.
  • Liana: A girl from Mt. Eskel who thinks she should have been chosen at Princess Academy to wed the prince.
