“I had so been looking forward to reading this final (third) volume in the Across the Universe trilogy. Thankfully, Revis did not disappoint! About half of the shipbound and the sleepers head down to the destination Centauri Earth and land to find that they are faced with no shortage of troubles. Amy, a former sleeper awakened early, and Elder, the leader of the shipbound are confronted with a leadership challenge as Amy's dad, who is now the leaders of the former sleepers seems to want to take control.
As they are sorting through conflict between the shipbound and the sleepers, Centauri Earth quickly shows its teeth. Pterodactyl-like creatures and mysterious lizard-like monsters keep attacking the new colonists. The settlers find what appears to be a former human settlement as they hunt for refuge, but it quickly becomes clear that the more they learn about their new home, the more they are going to have to fight to survive. Unfortunately, not everyone will!
I have to admit that Revis took this book in a very different direction than I had expected. To some degree, parts of it were predictable, but that did not take away from the enjoyment. There is lots of action, and I was reminded in some way of the Pern or Dinosaur Planet books written by Anne McCaffrey. The action really doesn't stop, and readers are drawn into familiar characters as they fight to live. This is definitely a great conclusion to the series.”
