I enjoyed this collection of short stories, though I caution first time readers of Sherman Alexie that his language and some situations are quite adult. I admire the way the author is able to create flawed but sympathetic characters. All the stories feature Native Americans, but their struggles with relationships don't always depend completely on that fact. Alexie is a wise, challenging and sometimes very funny writer.

I love Alexie's sense of humor and ability to take on relevant issues while telling a good story.

A collection of stories about young Native Americans introduces a surprising cast of characters who live and love in two worlds, balancing their Indian heritage and traditions against the realities of the modern world

While I have thoroughly enjoyed many of Alexie's books, this was my least favorite. It seems as though his whole intention in writing it was to add a degree of shock value to his works. While he succeeds in that, he does not succeed in making me want to read it again, which I believe is the true test of a good book.

I bought this at an airport, and couldn't put it down. I read it as I walked through the airport lines, I laughed as I sat on the airport benches, and snickered in my seat until I finished it, which coincided with my arrival home. I expected an awareness about race relations, but I have to say, his insights about women really surprised me.

Inventive, gentle, crass... I enjoyed Alexie's short stories as they are unpredictable. Dear John Wayne I loved for its suprises, but the one I liked most was Saint Junior: Watching an older couple in a morning hour, while their whole life crossing the scenes, smooth and funny.
