This is by far my favorite Sedaris book. The sad tale of Crumpet the Elf is a holiday tradition -- I listen to Sedaris' audio recoding every year.

If this rating was based ONLY on SantaLand Diaries it would be much higher, but rating the book in it's entirety...well, I didn't find the remaining stories to be all that amusing.

It was funny...I really enjoyed 2-3 of the stories, not all were that great. Worth the read-it was quick.

The author's behind the scenes look at his time as one of Santa's elves at Macy's in New York City ('The SantaLand Diaries') is well-worth the price of this small book of holiday short stories. I laughed out loud at Sedaris' misadventures as Crumpet/Blister the elf. 'Season's Greetings to Our Friends and Family!!!' a family Christmas letter from a mother accused of homicide is also funny (in a sick, twisted kind of way). 'Dinah, the Christmas Whore' has the best title ever and is destined to become the Hallmark Channel's all-time classic holiday spectacular, if anyone would actually make it into a T.V. movie (and it needs to be a T.V. movie).

Funny stories, but I only got to read half the book outloud to my hubby before it was due back at the library. :(

The cover of Holidays on Ice has a rock glass with a beverage and ice. Perhaps if I had had one in hand while reading this collection of six short stories I might have enjoyed it more. I'm sure we've all been at festive gatherings where friends have shared stories that just seem hilariious after a few cocktails into the evening. However, the next morning if you put the words to paper some might just seem slightly sad. That's a bit of the way I felt when I put this book down. This is probably just me. Fix yourself a highball and enjoy. The writing is crisp and clear. The characters are drawn with a sharp pen. And you will be surprised by a few.

This collection of comical and irreverent holiday stories is just the thing to take your mind off the stress of the season.
