Hard Eight: A Stephanie Plum Novel

by Janet Evanovich

In Hard Eight, Stephanie Plum picks up a case a little nastier than anything the wisecracking bounty hunter's seen before. Evelyn Soder and her young daughter have gone on the run, leaving an angry ex-husband who's planning to collect on a child custody bond that will leave Evelyn's grandmother homeless. Stephanie's first clue that there's more to it than that comes in the form of... (read more)

My second favorite of the series. (It was my fave until 13 came out.) How could you not love a stalker who dresses like a giant Easter bunny? And what happens to said bunny? I can't tell you anything except that I laughed for about 5 minutes.

Stephanie's main problem this time is finding a little girl, taken by her mom... if not found the granny loses her house. The granny lives next door to Stephanie's Folks. Stephanie finds a lot more than she bargained for, and needs help from all her friends to get out of this.

I am not really into mystery stories and this one was kind of corny. It was a pretty good book if you like mysteries.

I've love this series, and it is perfect for listening in the tiresome hours of driving or during a brisk walk. I always laugh out loud at the witty dialogue and perdicaments Stephanie finds herself facing. (And there is more than one thing that is hard in this episode.) More blown up cars, too few bullets in her gun (if she's carrying it), sexy run-ins with Ranger and Morelli, botched bond enforcement pickups and a menacing crime lord. This one is especially funny as she is constantly chased by bad guys dressed as a rabbit, Clinton and Nixon, and an fta outwits her again and again. Her mother even runs one down. And the author has added snakes and spiders for added danger. I am always amazed at the number of times there are guns going off with no bystander particularly bothered or her neighbors simply pulling out their own guns to add to the riot. Eddie Abruzzi, who has continuously eluded conviction, is mean and Stephanie is roughed up, and at one point faces death until her ditzy sister comes to her rescue. This installment is complex and edge-of-the-seat as Steph seeks a woman and her child that seemingly stole something and/or witnessed something and Abruzzi wants them "bad". Who can resist her sidekicks, Lula, grandma, Vinnie and a new incompetent lawyer. It's highly entertaining, ridiculous, sexy as h... and the perfect temptation for reading the next and the next and the next...

Great books! Love them! Evanovich's style reminds me of Fern Michaels somewhat...

It took me a long time to get into this one, but once I did it was excellent. These are great books!

I've read just about all of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. The whole series is a great, laugh- out- loud, quick read! Great for at the beach or poolside!

Wow - - this book disappointed me a little - - not as spunky with the mystery as usual. Still laugh-out-loud funny, thoug.
