The Secret Life of Bees tells the story of Lily Owens, whose life has been shaped around the blurred memory of the afternoon her mother was killed. When Lily's fierce-hearted black "stand-in mother," Rosaleen, insults three of the deepest racists in town, Lily decides to spring them both free. They escape to Tiburon, South Carolina--a town that holds the secret to her mother's past. Taken in by an eccentric trio of black beekeeping sisters, Lily is introduced to their mesmerizing world of bees and honey, and the Black Madonna.

This book made me cry a few times going to the end of the book. Even more when I found out one of the sisters died. When someone ask me hey do you know of a good book to read I always say this book because I know they will enjoy it just like I did and many also did. It’s such a true life book. I enjoyed it so much.

begins her adventure with bees in the summer of 1964. She is fourteen years old, and she lives in Sylvan, South Carolina, with her abusive father, T. Ray, and her housekeeper, Rosaleen. Lily’s mother died when she was four years old. Her only memory of her mother is from the day she died; Lily recalls that she may have picked up a gun and accidentally killed her mother.
