“I love how Jerry Spinelli doesn't take the easy way. He loves to draw a reader into a story using familiar elements, like a high school with popular and unpopular and weird kids in it. But then he makes it more complicated, and I think I know what's going to happen, but it doesn't. He makes me feel uncomfortable and sad and joyous and I always fall in love with his characters.”
