“This book became famous (at least in my opinion) because of its success as a Broadway musical. I have not seen the musical yet and while I'm sure it's excellent, I am so thrilled that I chose to read the book first. For those of you who don't know, there existed another side to the story about Dorothy, Toto, and her three comrades. The book gives you insight into the life of the Wicked Witch of the West. She wasn't always a witch – her real name is Elphaba. She had a family and friends...”

The book identifies the main characters in the musical and for the most part, the plot, but of course the musical is much more simplistic. I read the book reviews and almost didn't finish reading it but I'm glad I did. Yes, it's a bit weird, but a wonderful story nontheless. I've heard there is a movie of Wicked in the works.”
