“A very enjoyable paranormal/mystery/thriller combo of a story.
Darci Montgomery is a complicated woman, with a very complicated past. She's notorious as the believed murderess of her husband and sister-in-law, she's desperately mourning the loss of the husband she actually adored, while trying to look after her daughter, and the niece of her sister-in-law, who was married to Darci's father. Oh, and she also has powers - really, really big and importan powers! Except none of her powers seem to be able to allow her to find her husband and sister-in-law, although she's been trying constantly.
When Darci is asked by her mother - with whom she has a confusing relationship - to help an actor named Linc to find his missing son, she doesn't want to. After all, Darci has more than enough to do trying to manage her own tribulations. But, feeling she owes her mother, Darci goes with the man to a small town inn, where she senses the boy is.
They soon become embroiled in a plot to end all plots, and must investigate while also dealing with the scam artists who own the inn, disembodied anguished ghosts of slaves who lived on the property when it was a plantation, artifacts that seem to have power, and all manner of other supernatural things, on the hunt to find Linc's son.
The book is exciting and well-written, with good plot and character development and lots of interesting twists and turns. The characters of Darci and Linc really carry the story, but the supporting characters also give colour and depth to the story.
If you like paranormal fiction with a thriller, rather than a romance focus, you may enjoy this one. It's the second in a sort of trilogy, but each book is written as a stand-alone story so you don't need to read them in order. Each book stands on its own. I really enjoyed this as a fast east read. Recommended.”
