Love, loss, friendship, family, isolation...Joyce covers a lot of ground herself, and she does it with grace and subtle touches of humor.” see full review » see other reviews » |
“This took a while to get into, my dad really liked it though, maybe because he's old enough to identify! :P I thought the ending was really poignant and it was a pleasant read, but not a laugh a minute.”

The experiences and characters all ring true and exhibits a full range of emotions. This is a must-read. Really. An incredibly engaging, though-provoking, and ultimately satisfying book.”

At times, very joyful and at times very sad. I loved the author's descriptions of some things. Descriptions were never too lengthy and the story didn't get bogged down in these details, but they were "just right". Why hadn't I ever thought to describe a sunrise in that way? The characters came up with their own descriptions - of grief and loss and self-discovery. it was a touching book, and I suspect I will listen to the book on CD again someday. Jim Broadbent was a WONDERFUL choice to read this book. He did a fantastic job. ”

He has no walking shoes, no cell phone and no overcoat..yet he keeps walking. He does some serious self-discovery on his journey and he comes to terms with his past. An excellent book. I recommend it highly. ”

It took me a while to get into this book but it was worth it. The second half was very interesting, lots of plot twists and memorable characters who join Harold on his pilgrimage.”
