The descriptions of the horrible conditions under which the farmers in the Dust Bowl lived during the 1930's were chilling but, after a while, they got far too repetitive. I was also confused by the chronology which jumped back and forth even between paragraphs in the same chapter and was disturbed by the occasional use of slangy vocabulary, as though the author wasn't sure whether he was writing the book alone or letting the dirt farmers have a hand in writing it with him.
