Night Shadows

Three men desire Fianna, but she loves only one.

Fianna leaves home to escape having to marry a man she doesn't love. She travels to another city, far away, hoping to escape detection. There she meets Gaderian, but she doesn't realize he is a vampire. Forced to support herself, she works as a fortune teller in a tavern, and there she meets Gaderian again. She is caught between three different men who want her, each for his own reason. The demon, Stilo, wants her as his sex slave. Angus, the man she refused to marry, won't give up in his search for her. And in a realm where vampires and demons battle for supremacy, she is trapped in a dangerous game, where someone is bound to lose his life.

Characters/People edit see section history

  • Fianna: Fianna leaves home to escape marriage to a man she doesn't love. She travels to another city, where she must support herself. Very few people know that she can scry--tell someone's fortune by gaving into a crystal ball. She works as a fortune teller in a loval tavern.
  • Gaderian: Fianna meets Gaderian on her first day in her new city, unaware that he is a vampire. On a dare from a friend, Gaderian asks Fianna to tell his fortune. She is puzzled by what she sees in her crystal ball, henceforth keeping her distance from him.
  • Stilo: Stilo is a bandrega, a demon who can make himself look human. He's a smooth talker and uses his wiles on Fianna, wanting to lure her into his bed. The bandregas and the vampires are sworn enemies in the kingdom of Avador.

Setting & Locations edit see section history

Much of "Night Shadows" takes place in Avador, an imaginary country I intrduced in "Night Secrets." Fianna's village is Ros Creda. She ran away from her village to escape marriage to a man she didn't love. She travels to Moytura, the capital of Avador, also introduced in "Night Secrets."
  • Moytura: Moytrura is the capital of Avador. It is a large civilized city with shops, taverns, and government buildings such as a library and a hospital.

First Sentence edit see section history

Tired and footsore, dusty from her long trek along the dirt road, Fianna looked toward the east, where the last of daylight faded from the sky, firing the horizon with a scarlet glow.

Themes & Symbolism edit see section history

  • Magic: As with my other fantasies, magic comprises an important part of "Night Shadows." The villain, Stilo, is a demon who can make himself look human.
  • Vampires: The hero, Gaderian, is a vampire. At first, Fianna doesn't know he's a vampire. In "Night Shadows" the vampires are a good factor, protecting the people from the evil demons.
  • Love: And once more, love is an important factor, the ever embracing theme that brings two lovers together.
