  • Boston Society of Natural History: Members included Malcolm Key and William M. Butterfield. Possible member or associate was Monroe Tichy. One of the members of this society had the unique ability to be able to energize objects in such a way that messages would only be revealed in the presence of another type of energy.
  • Sphinx: Secret society founded at Dartmouth College in 1885. In 1903 this group erected a Sphinx tomb designed by Butterfield on Wheeling Street on Dartmouth's campus.
  • Alpha Delta: Fraternity (at Dartmouth) with house next to the Sphinx tomb. Said to be the inspiration for the movie Animal House. Another rumor says there's a secret tunnel that leads to the Sphinx tomb within their frat house.

Suggestive (but mostly non-graphic) lust scenes, Glo reports that Hatchet cut her with a knife while he held her prisoner and that he showed her many knives that he'd been collecting since he was 7 years old, co-habitation, Diesel and Lizzy steal articles important to their quest using the euphemism borrowing them--though the articles are instructed to be returned by DIesel's assistant the reader never sees that they are.
