Shahnameh: The Persian Book of Kings

by Ferdowsi

Among the great works of world literature, perhaps one of the least familiar to English readers is the Shahnameh: ThePersian Book of Kings, the national epic of Persia. This book is The greatest work of Farsi Literature(I'm reading it in Farsi.) you'll love it if you like to analyse stories. Shahnameh contains many stories starting with the story of creation and later on the kings of Iran. In it you can find the true characteristics that a hero, a king, etc should have to be worth their position.
Shahnameh is partly history, partly legends and has used parts of Zoroaster's holy book(Avesta). It's one of a king legend is the story of Rostam and Soharab(you can't miss it if you're a literature major.) Another master piece of it, is The story of Rostam and Esfandiar, which is the facing of Religion and Freedom.

Equivalent to other literary world epics such as Gilgamesh and the 1001 Arabian Nights the Shahnameh, or the book of Kings, is an epic tale of pre-Islamic Iran by the 10th century poet Abolqasem Ferdowsi.

Family, love and war, hatred and joy, conquest and defeat, humanity and life struggles all combine together in the Shahnameh, from the First Kings to the exploits of Ardeshir to the reign of Sekandar to Bozorjmehr the interpreter to the death of King Mahuy.

Nice and easy is the recommended pace when digesting this epic masterpiece. Get a hot mug of Ceylon Tea, kick back, and sail away...

For the west, history goes back up to 2800 years. but Shahname have historic event from more than 5000 years ago which has prooved to be correct and even earlier events.

if you like shahname and the history, i recommend you to read the book follows:

Zendegi va Mohajerat e Aryaian bar payeye goftar haye Irani. Dr. Fereydoon Joneydi.

This book opens a new window to Shahname and the history it talks about.
