Seriously, these things have become something like a soap opera for me. I'm interested in them because (for whatever reason) I find the characters compelling, and I want to find out what happens next. This one has Drizzt off on his own, dealing with the emotional demons that haunt him, while the other companions are busily defending Mithral Hall.
But is there anything new here? Well, not really. The Drizzt angst is a little bit different, but not really all that refreshing. I guess I find other authors for my "new" fix.
This book had more great battle scenes; a great big explosion; giants throwing boulders; and lots and lots of orcs and dwarves. If that's what you like (I guess *I* do), then the book might be worth your time.”
“The orcs are gathering in great numbers to try and take Mithrill Hall if not all the northland. Seperated from his friends he thinks to be dead, Drizzt embarks on a quest of vengence and slaughter. Back at Mithrill Hall Bruener lays near death while the rest fight on.
Being a R. A. Salvatore fan I may be biased but once again I feel he has done a wonderful job with this second book in the trilogy. A gripping tale with superb battles made it a very quick read since I could not put it down.”
“Believing his friends have been killed by an orc offensive, Drizzt Do'Urden begins a ravaging war against the orc bands that stream out to join the apparently victorious cause of Obould. Aided by trolls and ice giants, the orcs appear unstoppable. The dwarves, aided by the fallen dwarf-king's adoptive human children, take up defensive positions atop a high hill with flanking forces guarding their path to the dwarf mountain fastness, but even dwarves know that they have little hope against the vast forces that the orcs bring against them.
Normally, orc bands collapse before they can create lasting changes in order. Internal squabbles eventually break out. Obould's allies anticipate this here. The drow who have been aiding him anticipate only the great chaos that will occur as Obould attacks--and is eventually repulsed. But Obould has other plans. He has a vision of a time when orcs and humans and dwarves can live side by side, can claim a country of their own, can exist among civilized people rather than be treated as monsters to be killed. A victory over the dwarves will carve out the territory he needs to stake this claim. And the odd gift of immortality by the orc god appears to make this dream a possibility.
All in all i thought this book was very good and i would recommend it to anyone that is interested in Sci-fi and fantasy series.”

Every time I go to a book store I find myself looking for books by Salvatore that I haven't read and when I find them, they usually don't last more than a day or two. Even outside of the Forgotten Realms books all of his stories are compelling. This author really knows how to draw you in and keep you hooked. One of my all time favorite authors.”

Having Tarathiel and Innovindil arround was a plus, though it was so sad to see Tarathiel die. I knew that it would happen, since I read The Two Swords before hand, but it didn't prepare me for how devestating it would be.”

It consist only of long description of fighting moves down to every detail. He rotated his sword, moved his left foot forward and swung making sure the blade hit between the 2nd and third rib...... and so on. There's hardly any story beside the war and how everyone either really wants to kill for revenge or how they don't wanna fight cause its bad and annoying.
Unless you want to learn how to write fight scene I seriously don't think this book is worth it at all.”
