This book is so far one of my favorite books. The plot is intense and unexpected, making you feel as wary and cautious as the characters in the book. The overall writing is very well done, and is packed with details that make you vividly picture the scenes in your mind (the way the author describes the cruelty wants to make you grimace). I completely recommend this book to young readers who like fantasy. Enjoy :)

The Dark Elf Trilogy is a favorite of one of my best friends, so I figured I ought to give its first book a try. I was not disappointed, though that whole Forgotten Realms D&D-type fantasy was never my favorite style. Despite that, I found the main character Drizzt rather irresistible . . . yup.

This is a great book of morals. The book is about a misfit in a deadly society. Drizzt is so different from his kin, drow. Drizzt fights with passion not glee, he must learn to survive in this backstabbing city where morals are cut loose. Drizzt's only way of escape is through the hostile realms of the Underdark.

The perfect beginning to an epic series. This book shows us the origin of Drizzt and the workings of his beautiful yet cold homeland of Menzoberranzan. You won't be able to help but fall in love with the dark elf as he embarks on a journey all of us can understand, to find one's place in the world. The beginning of it all, we follow him as he discovers that he's different from his cruel race and strives to remain untainted by their dark ways, eventually breaking free of them all together with the help of his teacher Zaknafein. I highly recommend this book to all fantasy lovers. You'll love the characters and, despite the evil it holds, the underground world of the dark elves its self.

Good Book. If you don't read this, you won't understand the rest of the series. It's about an elf who doesn't like or fit in with his people. They are all evil. He is not. He learns that his father is the same way, so Drizzt (The main character) keeps disobeying the laws of the spider goddess; Lolth. One day, his mother, Matron Malice, decides to sacrifice him to her evil goddess, but his father decides to take the it instead. Then Drizzt runs away, and the adventure continues.

Easily one of the best Drizzt books, certaintly the best in its trilogy. (yay Drizzt!) The politics of Menzoberranzan [sic?] are intriuging...to say the very least. I absolutely loved it; I could barely put it down! I HIGHLY recommend it to any fantasy fan.

This is part of my goal to read a book in every category. I liked reading the battle scenes, and I started taking notes about the family relationships and making predictions about who survives, and who dies, in the books that fill out this series. My favorite part of the book is when Drizzt is at the Academy because I think that is where I started to understand his true character.
