- Drizzt Do'Urden: a goodly drow who cannot seem to escape his dark heritage.
- Bruenor Battlehammer: a dwarf, adoptive father of Catti-brie and Wulfgar, warrior, and King of Mithral Hall.
- Cattie-Brie: a human woman adopted by Bruenor as a child. Catti-Brie wields the magical bow Taulmaril, the Heart-Seeker.
- Wulfgar: a human barbarian also adopted by Bruenor. He is a formidable warrior and wields the magical hammer, Aegis-Fang.
- Regis: a charismatic halfling and former thief.
- Artemis Entreri: a superb assassin and fighter from the desert city of Calimport. Entreri wants nothing more than to beat Drizzt in a fair fight.
