Characters/People edit
- Dormael Harlun: Dormael is the main character of The Sentient Fire, and the story is told mostly from his POV. He's a Wizard of the Conclave, and a roguish drunk who for all of that has a good heart. He does make mistakes, and those come back to bite him during the book.
- D'Jenn Pike: D'Jenn is also a Wizard, and is Dormael's cousin and long time travelling companion. They share a "line of work" in the book, and usually get into trouble together. D'Jenn is a brooding sort, and very meticulous at everything, especially his magic.
- Shawna Llewan: Shawna is a noblewoman who is on the run from the Galanian Red Swords, an elite company of knights from the Galanian Empire who murdered her family. She's a very adept swordswoman, and has sworn revenge for her plight. She falls in with Dormael and D'Jenn by accident, but soon becomes the central person in their lives.
- Allen Harlun: Allen is a great warrior and is Dormael Harlun's brother. He's an unapologetic prankster, and nearly an egomaniac, but fiercely loyal. He is a champion gladiator and a good hand with almost any weapon he picks up.
- Bethany: Bethany is a mysterious girl with unknown origins. She falls in with the characters and becomes central to all their lives.
- Maaz: Maaz is a mysterious wizard who chases Shawna across the globe. His plans are unknown, but he will stop at nothing to get what he wants.
- Maarkov: Maarkov is Maaz's brother, and a master swordsman. He follows his brother because he has nothing else in his life.
