Great, easy-to-read fantasy fiction. A solid concept with really memorable heroes and villains. The reluctant hero concept is familiar territory for Gaiman, but it's nice to see it targetted to a younger audience. The blending of magic and science and a story that never lulls, makes it a good choice for readers who get bored easily.

Filled with far too many typos for such a short book, this one will keep your eyes rolling as you go from one painfully obvious event to the next cliched line. While the premise is a good one, the execution is woefully lacking. Gaiman teamed up with Reaves, a screenwriter, for this one and it shows. The book reads like a poorly produced made for T.V. movie, the kind that smart television studios pass on.

    If you liked His Dark Materials, Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl, Coraline, Gaiman in general, or a combo of the above . . . you'll probably like this book. It is Sci Fi (which is usually not my thing) but funny and set in a more realistic setting. It is just begging for a sequel.
