It Had to Be You

by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

The Windy City isn't quite ready for Phoebe Somerville -- the outrageous, curvaceous New York knockout who has just inherited the Chicago Stars football team. And Phoebe is definitely not prepared for the Stars' head coach Dan Celebow, a sexist jock taskmaster with a one-track mind. Celebow is everything Phoebe abhors. And the sexy new boss is everything Dan despises -- a meddling bimbo... (read more)

This book was so clever and extremely well written. SEP's love scenes are hot and creative. I will never look at football coaches the same way ever again. I can't wait to read the next in this series. By the way, this is the order to read the Chicago Stars series:

IT HAD TO BE YOU (Phoebe Somerville and Dan Calebow)
HEAVEN, TEXAS (Bobby Tom Denton and Gracie Snow)
NOBODY'S BABY BUT MINE (Cal Bonner and Dr. Jane Darlington)
DREAM A LITTLE DREAM (Gabe Bonner and Rachel Stone)
THIS HEART OF MINE (Kevin Tucker and Molly Somerville)
Great start to a great series!

I've been reading the football series out of order and this is the book that started it all. The book was a typical SEP read with wit and humor in abundance. Dan and Phoebe were perfect together and the romance left me sighing for more. The highlight of this book is the change the character of Phoebe underwent. It kept me turning the pages and riveted till the very end! Also, read her latest in the football series called Match me if you can and you will be a SEP fan for life!
Sooooo Good

This is the first book in the Chicago Stars series - it is excellent. Light entertaining and comical reading is my style for summer and this book nails it..
If this was the best, I don't want to read the worst

I'm convinced the author's family and friends are responsible for this novel's 5-star ratings. It was a complete mess. Simply, the story was about a woman (Pheobe) who inherited an NFL team and her relationship with the head coach (Dan). Pheobe's character was a bimbo in every sense of the word, while Dan's character was hot-headed, disrespectful, and seemingly bi-polar. The story was so poorly written that if you skipped one paragraph, three weeks of time might have elapsed. It was as though the author skipped around in order to make things happen, it was cheesy!

When I read a romance I look for witty dialogue, charm, steamy love scenes and scenarios that keep me turning the pages. This book did not have any of that. It is barely worth the time it takes me to write a review, but I felt compelled to warn people about how awful it was.
1st book in the Chicago Stars/Bonner Brother series.

It had to be You is the beginning of the Chicago Stars series. The owner of the Chicago Stars dies and lives his daughter(Pheobe) the Football Team if -- The Team wins a AFC Championship. If the Team looses it all goes to creepy cousin Reed. I read these books out of order and enjoyed them all. The series includes: It Had to be You; Heaven, Texas; Nobody's Baby But Mine; Dream a Little Dream; This Heart of Mine.
