Light and fluffly this may be, but I found the comedy to be tinged with a poignant sadness. These wealthy people who have landed estates, title, and priviledge still have to suffer through romantic foibles just like the rest of us. Highly readable.

I love this book. I've just finished The Pursuit of Love and am starting Love in a Cold Climate and am trying to pace myself--I don't want to be over. Nancy Mitfords writing really makes you feel like you're one of the "gang" and that you're there. Plus she's hilarious and the language is so wonderful--I wish we could all still speak like that--so civilized. ;-) Can't wait to see the BBC production.

I am loving the book. Nancy has such a love of literature and language that it comes through with every word. Such an enjoyable read! I've read books about the Mitfords - it's an addiction - but I hadn't tried to read this before and I'm kicking myself for not reading it earlier.

Tacky cover--that pink!--but undeniably & fabulously funny pair of novels. Worth seeking out in used-book stores in older hardcover editions.
