• Michael Alexander: Tall, athletic, ice blue eyes and softly spiky blond hair. Michael is a young man with convictions. Though he hasn't always done everything right, and at times the whole world seems arrayed against him, his heart is as pure as can be.
• Airel: Petite, about 98 pounds after dinner, with brown hair and fair skin. Airel is the girl nobody normally noticed and quite frankly, she's fine with that. She's happy not to fit in with any of the cliques. There's so much more to your average young lady than meets the eye, and if you ask her for an opinion, you'll get one. You may not like it, either, which is also fine and dandy. She's got enough to deal with, trust her. She gets this feisty nature from her dad's side of the family.
• Ellie: Ellie is a take-no-prisoners chick with impossibly bright blue hair that pops out all crazy in every direction. She knows how to use a sword, so don't muck about. Oh, and her accent places her firmly out of the country (America), but just where is anyone's guess. It could be Australia, it could be Britain. She calls her closest friends by pet names, she's up on the latest and best styles as long as they're practical, and she's always got her smartphone handy.
• Mr. Emmanuel: Tall, pale, and aristocratically built, Mr. Emmanuel owns an entire skyscraper in Cape Town. He likes to wear his white fedora occasionally, and he's taken with wristwatches as well. He lives the good life, but that doesn't have to make him good, does it? Are you watching closely? Because with Mr. Emmanuel, every gesture matters.

• Sawtooth Mountains: It's anyone's guess precisely where, but this book begins somewhere in the Sawtooth Mountains in the present day.
• Arabia, ca. 2000 B.C.: The backstory from Airel continues in Michael with fresh bits of plot twistiness for your delectation. =)
• Arlington, Oregon: Ellie, Airel, Michael, and Kim spend a great deal of the story here in this little byway just off I-84 in Oregon.
• Ascension Island: Kreios spends a little time here, thinking things over.
• Cape Town: One of the most beautiful cities in the world, Cape Town is the perfect place to set an epic tale.
