I have to say that I found Condie's conclusion to the Matched trilogy disappointing. I really enjoyed the first two books, but this one just never sucked me in. Reached is told from alternating perspectives of Cassia, Xander and Ky. For the majority of the book they are all in different areas doing different things for the Rising. After Cassia and Ky were kept apart for 1/2 of the second book, I found the continued separation of all of them exhausting in Reached. It also put a damper on any emotion that I might have felt at their reunion – it just wasn’t there. Of the trilogy, Matched is my favorite. The character development and plot slow after the first one – in Reached, the characters have been through trials beyond their years, but as they supposedly mature and even become philosophical, the transformation falls flat. I enjoyed Crossed, but simply found Reached very slow and lackluster. Condie does tie things together for the reader, but the reveals are so slow in coming that I just didn’t care as much by the end. She is not a bad writer; in fact I often found her use of words beautiful. I just had higher hopes for the ending after such a great start to the series.
