Laura Stutzman travels to Middleton in order to find Mark King, the man who betrayed her and her family. She is employed by the Byler family and begins a friendship with their adopted son Sawyer Thompson, who is struggling to decide whether to become Amish or go to college. Sawyer is approached by his long-lost grandmother Cora Easely, who recently learned of his existence. She wants him to return to New York and become her heir. Cora gives Laura money and access to a detective to find Mark in exchange for convincing Sawyer to go to New York. Cora's maid gives Sawyer letters from his mother, which Cora in her heartbreak never opened. Cora and Sawyer finally connect, and Sawyer follows Laura to where Mark is hiding. Mark is arrested, and Sawyer proposes to Laura at the wedding of friends.
