“The star of the Hex Appeal anthology is definitely the Jim Butcher story, part of his Bigfoot trilogy of Dresden Files shorts. I also thoroughly enjoyed the Carrie Vaughn story, which surprised me since I haven't been that impressed with her Kitty Norville series offerings in other collections.”belsum wrote this review Wednesday, October 24, 2012. “Let's see, I of course didn't read the whole thing, because I only got it for the authors I follow. Ilona Andrews was in the Kate Daniels world, but in Philadelphia and had Saiman's cousin, Adam. Interesting story.
Jim Butcher's was about Big Foot and enjoyable. I also read Lori Handeland's was in the Phoenix Chronicles and had Jimmy and Summer meeting. It also pulled in Sawyer. Last was Carrie Vaughn's in Kitty's world but with Odyssus Grant. Also a good read. ”

The second book in Richelle Mead's Bloodlines novels is just as good as the first! Alchemist Sydney Sage is helping to protect Moroi princess Jill Dragomir
by keeping her hidden from possible political assassins in Palm Springs, California. A place most vampires would try to avoid. A disappointment to her father, Sydney is now being praised for her loyalty and obedience. But, deep inside herself, Sydney finds herself growing closer to Jill, Eddie (one of Jill's protecters) and especially to Adrian' the Moroi spirit user who is bonded to Jill after saving her life, as well as Angeline, a dhampir from another community, which causes Sydney to question everything she knows about being an Alchemist. At the school, they present themselves as a family of siblings and cousins.
I really enjoyed the way the relationship builds between all the characters, and I got a kick out of Sydney being taken out of her comfort zone of academics and intellect. Especially when she is introduced to Brayden, another intellectual. She has no clue how to have a social life, and has mixed emotions about dating when she needs to keep an eye on her "family".
Dmitri and Sonya are former Strigoi turned back to the Moroi and Dhampir they were by Jill's sister, Lissa, also a Spirit user, and new Queen of the Moroi court.
Sonya and Adrian are working together to see what other ways they might find a way to cure Strigoi by other means, and Sydney's blood might be the key. Plus, there is another danger from a new group that Sydney had no clue existed, especially when she recognizes something on one of their weapons!
I found myself getting less sleep at night while I was reading this book, primarily because I couldn't put it down! I hate that the next book won't be published until 2013! Especially with how this book had ended!
“Several good stories in this anthology.
Ilona Andrew's story was my favorite. Interesting new characters in the Kate Daniels world. - 4 stars.
Jim Butcher's and Rachel Caine's stories were entertaining.
The story Snow Job by Carole Nelson Douglas was interesting but disjointed. It had me wanting to read more from the series but not sure of the writing.
Outside the Box by P N Elrod was good. I liked it and would like to read more about where these two characters go from here.
I didn't particularly like How Do You Feel? by Simon Green.
There Will Be Demons - Lori Handland - It was entertaining but I didn't like the ending and the manipulative male character. Cherry Kisses by Erica Hayes was ok but I was similarly disappointed in the female main character.
Carrie Vaughn's story was ok. It was just kind of slow to me.
“An anthology put together by author P.N. Elrod provides the reader with several stories of the other world that is totally entertaining.
Retribution Clause by Ilona Andrews - what if you were able to buy an insurance policy that guarantees retribution against someone, if you are killed by that person?
Bigfoot on Camput by Jim Butcher - What happens when Bigfoots son, who is away at college is threatened by an unknown danger?
Hollys Balm by Rachel Caine - What happens when a resurrection witch brings back a young woman who was tortured to death for her murderer to do it again?
Snow Job by Carole Nelson Douglas - What happens when a paranormal investigator takes a job at a Las Vegas Casino for the owner a paranormal vampire, when events start to get out of control?
Outside the Box by P. N. Elrod - What happens when the recovery team at a new vampires grave fail to notice that the recoveree is not a new vampire?
How Do You Feel by Simon R. Greene - What happens in Nightside when Dead Boy finds out who killed him?
There Will Be Demons by Lori Handeland - What happens when a demon killer is forced to take on a new partner sent by her Seer?
Cherry Kisses by Erica Hayes - What happens when a witch is hired to bring back a valuable item from hell?
The Art of Misdirection by Carrie Vaughan - What happens when a casino blackjack dealer begins to suspect that she has a cheater at her table, but neigher she or her pit boss can figure out how it is happening?
For answers to the above read Hex Appeal.”
