Characters/People edit see section history

  • Melody Mayflower: Melody has been raised since she was a child to be a perfect girl to be a surrogate for parents who can't have their own children. Her parents are very busy with their lives so Melody has been raised by nannies. First girl in her school to go RePro (this means she was hired by an infertile couple to have a baby for them). She just found out she has a twin sister who was raised in Goodside, a religious cult. She is worried this will hinder her uniquality, or make her less desirable as a surrogate.
  • Harmony Smith: Melody's twin. Harmony was given up as a baby to a religious group who often raises unwanted children. She strongly believes in God and the Bible, but she is not sure she likes all the rules in her community. She has had disagreements with the leaders and she often asks questions that no one wants to hear. She finds out about her twin sister Melody and tries to save her soul. She is married to Ram, on the insistence of the elders, but she doesn't love him, and he doesn't seem to be attracted to her either.
  • Jondoe: Aka Gabriel. All the girls want to bump with him. He has the optimal characteristics that potential parents want in their children. He is hired to "bump" with many surrogates so they will have the best offspring possible. He may seem conceited, but he is actually a sweet guy who tries to treat the girls as nicely as possible considering the situations. He bumped with Harmony, now he is in love with her.
  • Zen Chen-Chavez: Melody's best friend (a boy). Zen used to be too short, so he was not sought after to bump with anyone to make babies. Now he has grown four inches and all the girls want to bump with him. He is a very generous person, but he does not like what is happening with so many teenagers having children.
  • Shoko Weiss: Melody's best girl friend. She got pregnant with her boyfriend the first time, but gave (I mean SOLD) the baby to an infertile couple. They liked the baby so much, they hired Shoko to have another baby for them. She almost died having the second baby.
  • Ventura Vida: Melody's rival.

Quotes edit see section history

  • “Even with the suggested regimen of therapeutic and pharmaceutical interventions, many RePros' parents find themselves inexplicably saddened by the giving away of what would have been their grandchildren. The shock of their own conflicted feelings has even inspired Ash and Ty to develop a special seminar, "Giving Up Your Grandchild, Giving Up the Guilt." That Ash and Ty are genuinely afraid of getting all cradlegrabby is baffling to me, because they've never really liked being around kids. Myself included.”
    Melody Mayflower
  • “She's failing all of her classes, and the only reason she hasn't been bounced out is because of the recent passage of the Maternal Anti-Discrimination Education Act, which basically says that preggers (according to the quikiwiki) "cannot be punished academically for their invaluable role in the repopulation of our great nation." So it doesn't matter if a pregger is experiencing hormonally induced stupidity, is artificially dosed into stupidity, or is just naturally stupid with or without the human squatting in her uterus; she can get her diploma without testing proficiently in any of the subjects she's taken in four years of high school. And this policy will stop us from slipping into second-world status how exactly?”
    Melody Mayflower
  • “Zen's got an overloaded brain cache, but he isn't adequately versed in the ways of female scheming because he can't get this kind of knowledge on the quikiwiki. No, it's embeded in our XX chromosomes, like hemophilia and red-green colorblindness.”
    Melody Mayflower
  • “Zen cuts straight through the Quidditch match in progress and almost gets taken down by a Beater hurling a Nerf quaffle right at his machopartes, but he's saved by the same lightning-quick reflexes that serve him so well in Ping-Pong.”
    Melody Mayflower
  • “Any time she gives in to my demands, she feels like she's contributing to our nation's downward spiral by failing to live up to China's totalitarian parental standards.”
    Melody Mayflower
  • “What makes people so morally bankrupt? I never met my grandparents -- they all took a dirt nap before I came around -- so I have no idea if they raised Ash and Ty to be so famegamey and moneygrubby. Right now I'm going with Darwin: DNA is destiny.”
    Melody Mayflower
  • “Isn't polite? I'm not farting at the dinner table! I'm talking about baby trafficking! That's beyond impolite. It's inhumane! And it's tough to talk about. But it's happening right nowwww.”
    Melody Mayflower
