A well researched book with good insights. The book focuses on overcoming one's initial barriers in starting up, with the help of different case studies. I would say the author was successful in getting his points through. However, I found the book to be a little slow and dragging though. The writing could have been crisper.

Good book to get you to stop planning and start doing! Good ideas on bootstrapping with some frameworks to get you going as well as some other web resources

First off, just a heads up, this book is geared pretty heavily toward an information business; that is, one that sells self-published books, tutorials, one-person services, etc. To be fair, there ARE other examples in the book, retailers, vacation resorts, etc. but they are not the majority.

Personally, this book was a little to heavy on the inspirational stories and a little to light on the action plan. Sure, I'm all for diving head first into starting a business, but, let's be realistic, it's probably a good idea to get a business entity and a plan first. Maybe not always, but probably.

Definitely some inspiring stories here as well as definite call to start whatever it is you're thinking about doing. Good read, not great, but good.

There are two significant takeaways from reading this book. The first one is passion for your business. Chris makes a case that you do not need a fully blown business plan in order to get your business started. He talks extensively about fulfilling customers needs (value proposition), and matching your skills with market opportunities (leverage). In either case, you must have passion for your business.
This book is full of great lessons in how to find a market, create value and build a business in the shortest period of time. The stories of business successes and failures that are included here, teach all of the elements of what it takes to build a really successful business - no matter what the size of the business. Well worth the read.

Something to refer back to...but it goes to show you don't need to go on Dragon's Den or suits for funding. Just launch! For me, though, I don't have an idea yet for my own $100 startup!
