I really liked this book. It is about an 18 year old boy who gets his girlfriend pregnant. She decides not to keep the child and moves away with her family to another state. He feels incapable of allowing the child to be adopted. He gets custody and must take care of Max with his hard working, blue-collar dad. This is not a fairy tale. The reality of his choice soon becomes clear.

Great book because it is written from the point of view of the unwed teenage father.

I've handed this book to many high school students, and they've said it was good. So I read it aloud to my own three teens during snow day yesterday. Much of the voice, plot, and characterization was good--but I'm not so sure about the end. Epilogue brought me to unexpected tears.

this was a really good book, i really liked it. it was about babys which i love! it seemed like a true story because alot of high schoolers are having babys at an early age. it was interesting knowing how this guy feels about his kid max and other stuff. very complicated life after you have baby.

I thought Hanging on to Max was a good realistic fiction book. I think it could almost be a sequel to another book I recently finished called the Nature of Jade. Both are about teenage boys who are responsible of the babies that their ex-girlfriends gave birth to but then couldn't handle. However, Hanging on to Max was written from the guy's perspective whereas the Nature of Jade was written through the perspective of a girl who met the guy. I think this book portrays the relationship between father and child very well and has a very emotional effect on the reader. Throughout the book I sympathized with the main character as well as the girl he impregnated. I think I would recommend this book to any of my classmates because it is an easy read but entertaining as well.

So far this book is really good, its horrible that he would have to make that decison and i cant believe max's mom would do that to him. I wish that Sam would have held on strong until the end though it kills me to have to read about emotional times Sam goes through. The only problems Sam ran into was when he had to decide about the whole adoption crisis. Sam, I would have to say would be my favorite character he is a very well set boy that knows what he wants until he starts missing his old life where he could go hangout with his friends and what not. As far as relating to the characters though i cant. I cant relate to deciding on to keep a baby or giving him up. I would say if you like books such as this one go ahead and read it it may make you learn something or it may not.

This is one of my favorite books. I have went through what he is going through only in a girls point of veiw. It is very sad because in the end he does something that you wouldnt expect anyone to do after holding on for so long.
