There should be a pre-requisite to read this book for all jobs in American government in politics. Who knows? Maybe there already is. That would be sad.

A little depressing to find out that my views of our ancestors are a lot different than I was taught.

Will I be shunned by all the good liberals if I hate this book? It's the second time I have tried to read it, and I can't. Just can't get through it. It's too detailed, and making history about the minutia makes history boring. I also think that an informed opinion is one that takes both sides of the story into account, and that is decidedly not what you will find here. On the other hand, if liberals want ample confirmation that privileged paternalistic middle aged white men are evil and have been since... well, forever, then this book is for you. Enjoy.

This book is about the history of the people of the United States of America. Howard Zinn writes about the other side of the story in history.

I really enjoy reading this book. Howard Zinn uses great details and tells the true story about the history of America. A People's History of the United States is a 1980 non-fiction book by American historian and political scientist Howard Zinn. In the book, Zinn seeks to present American history through the eyes of those rarely heard in mainstream histories. A People's History has become a major success and was a runner-up in 1980 for the National Book Award. It has been adopted for reading in some high schools and colleges across the United States and has been frequently revised, with the most recent edition covering events through 2003. . .

Great alternative to the traditional American history book. Zinn retells the history of the United States through the eyes of the common people. Instead of the typical of history of great men and big events, Zinn tells the story from the point of view of the American people and how they lived. A refreshing approach, and a must have for anyone interested in history. As a history teacher myself, I have found this book invaluable in introducing students to multiple perspectives of history.

It's US History viewed through the looking glass. Every event that ever happened in the US can be attributed to the greed of the American aristocracy that has controlled the government since the days of Washington and Jefferson. Not that there isn't a lot of truth to that statement, but even Zinn himself admits it's an extremist view. However, given the whitewashed take on our history that we got in school it's probably a book everybody should read.
