“I was tempted to read Samuel Selvon's 'Lonely Londoners' after watching Horace Ove's 1974 film 'Pressure' . The film was greatly influenced by Lonely Londoners. Horace Ove is one of Britain's first black feature films and remains very much a product of its time. But over 20 years later it continues to provide an important dialogue on issues that are still extremely pertinent today. The DVD includes an excellent documentary of a lecture (given in 1969 by eminent American author and political commentator James Baldwin, accompanied by comedian and author Dick Gregory, called 'Baldwin's Nigger' - a must see, full of quick-witted, powerful and provocative statements which hit home even today.
