In this book, Carter and Sadie Kane continue to end the Chaos snake, Apophis. Since all the Books of Overcoming Apophis are gone, they figure out how to defeat him using his shadow. They will have to rely on Setne, a lying, thieving ghost, to help them retrieve The book of Thoth which will help them use the spell for the shadow. They're running out of time, and their initiates aren't doing well. Walt is dying of a curse (to Sadie's immediate disappointment), Zia is having trouble with blackouts, and if Carter and Sadie do the spell wrong, it could cost them their lives. So what do they do? Walt hosts Anubis, the god of death, Zia channels the power of Khepri, an aspect of Ra, and Carter and Sadie's uncle/Chief Lector Amos, relies on the god of evil, Set. As the last book, this may be the most exciting one yet. At the end they invite people with magical powers to Brooklyn House.
