“A story divided into current time with flashbacks to 1974-75 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Two Atlanta police officers, Amanda Wagner and Evelyn Mitchell are being ridiculed by their male counterparts, who also criticize other female officers. They don't hide their bias against women working to solve cases in the field and think they should be acting as secretaries.
They are assigned to a case in a dangerous section of Atlanta where women usually do not try to go. When there, they get information about a number of missing prostitutes but since the women's bodies haven't been found, there is little official help.
When there, Amanda gets into an incident with a pimp and the result is she gains respect from her fellow officers.
In present day, Amanda is Will Trent's supervisor in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. She assigns Will to airport duty away from the flow of serious crimes. He doesn't understand this and they have a conflict until they meet at a children's home where Will was raised and still held secrets.
I can't say more without revealing plot but get ready for a ride into scary city and be prepared to meet characters who are gutsy, realistic and have one heck of a story to tell.
