“Deborah Harkness' second novel in the All Souls trilogy, Shadow of Night, continues the adventures of Debra Bishop, an Oxford scholar and aspiring witch who is adjusting to her recent marriage to Matthew Clairmont, vampire geneticist. The two continue to search for an enchanted manuscript known as Ashmole 782, which may contain origins for the supernatural creatures, witches, vampires and daemons, which share the Earth with humanity. Since others share in this search for this manuscript and Debra requires another witch to train her in the use of powers, Matthew and Debra escape the present to timewalk into the past to Elizabethan England. Although I preferred the first novel, the second is also enjoyable.”
