“I'd read some really good reviews of this book before I read it, and as I usually am when that happens, I'm a bit nervous starting the book because I'm afraid I'll be that one person who says "it just wasn't for me". Thankfully, that didn't happen with this book - I loved it! Rhiannon Paille created a beautiful world that was described in such detail, you could definitely picture yourself there. Kaliel seems very timid at the beginning of the book, but by the end there has been a lot of character growth and you see her finally come into her own. The same can be said of Krishani. They are both destined for great things, things they cannot even imagine themselves being able to do. Kaliel just wants to be like everyone else, but she's too special for that. Kaliel and Krishani fall for each other immediately, even though most elves are married to the land and don't ever experience real love unless the land decides to allow it. They can't stay away from each other, and they can't stop thinking of each other, even when they are pulled apart. They are destined to be together, but the very heart of what they are will keep that from ever happening.
I can now highly recommend this book along with everyone else! The writing is creative and descriptive, and the characters come to life in Ms. Paille's hands. Definitely a must-read for all fans of fantasy and romance alike:)”
“This book is a beautiful love story even though it does not seem possible for the couple to be together.. It is the story of Kaliel and Krishani, two people that you will soon love. The story is beautifully written and even though it is a book of fantasy, you will find much in the story that relates to your own life. The world created in this story is as beautiful as nature itself. I love the way flora and fauna are a major part of this story. Sometimes fantasy can be confusing and the writer can get bogged down in the details and this can make it hard to keep up with. But, that is not the case with this story. It is easy to read because it is written so well. The story seems to flow from Rhiannon as if she just had to get it out! I am finding it difficult to talk about this story without giving too much of it away, so take my word for it and read it! You will be glad that you did. This story is full of magic, danger, suspense, and romance. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
“Flame of Surrender is a lighter fantasy romance that revolves around Kaliel and Krishani. Both of them have a good handful of problems ranging from Kaliel being urged to forget her feelings of love in her heart, to Krishani's problem of not being able to pass the second rite without burning down the grounds of it. It only gets harder when their destinies begin to unfold and test their limits even further.
From the first page, Paille pulls you into a magical world with an enchanting writing style. This story is more of a romantic tragedy theme, with a lot of soul in the characters. Their world is a tricky one to fit into with what they are, and it doesn't take long for Krishani's and Kaliel's love for each other to suffer because of the rules of their people.
Between Kaliel and Krishani, I couldn't pick who I liked more, as they were both charming characters along with the feorn, Pux. A bit more action and a faster pace in the first half would have boosted this one up another star for me. I look forward to the next book of the series.”
“This was a great fantasy book! I was glued to the story on each page and loved how the characters developed as the story went on. It had an emotional tone which I enjoyed as well. Not a heavy fantasy book as some can often be but a truly enjoyable read!”Literary Chanteuse wrote this review Monday, October 24, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
