In this novel, C.S. Lewis recounts the mythical story of Cupid and Psyche found in the Metamorphoses by Apuleius. Lewis's re-telling of this ancient story involves two daughters, one beautiful (Psyche), and one ugly (Orual). As would be expected, Lewis gives a "pre-Christian" slant to the...

Didn’t Like It

Really really didn't like this book. I just thought it was weird. And although it's C.S. Lewis, it's not a Christian book - it's basically a Greek gods story rewritten

Been looking to go back to read much of C.S. Lewis' work and this one I found difficult to start. Once I got into the heart of the story though it was interesting to see how the story did develop. It is a classic how our human frailties effect our thoughts and relationships to those around us.

By the time I was finished with the book I did enjoy it, but as to recommend it, I do not know if I would.

As usual, CS Lewis' work is brilliant!

C.S. Lewis' darker side. A retold tale of Cupid and Psyche, from the perspective of Psyche's older ugly sister. Incredibly sad and universally relatable, this will make you weep in anger that such a life could exist.

I was only vaguely aware of the story of this myth so I was captivated at the way Lewis tells it, trying to make it more real. I really enjoyed it.

It was well-written, I just couldn't connect as well as I hoped.

I read this twice and the second time understood it better but I think I need to reread again it to fully grasp the meaning. The tale is well told, but there were some things I did not like in it as well as having trouble understanding "till we have faces".

A very thought provoking book... I think I liked. Might have to get back to you on that.
