Darling Crule aka Kere as known by the resistance against his tyranical uncle's governorship rule falls in love with the leader of the resistance Zarya Starska while hiding his actual identity of being a relative of the governor from her and the resistance members.

- Darling Cruel: aka Kere (death) a member of the resistance against his uncle; explosives specialist with the Sentella an aristocrat with a double life. Heir to the Caronese empire but can't take throne until his 30 birthday. Full name - Druxton Ambridate Darling Setonius Cruel. He falls in love with the leader of the resistance named Zarya
- Zarya Starska: she is a lead rebel trying to bring down one of the most powerful dynasties in the United Systems. Was friends with Darling when they were children. Her father had been an advisor to Darling's father.
- Maris Sulle: Darling's best friend and he is the only person he would die to protect. Andarian ambassador to Caron.
- Sorche: Zayra's younger sister that she will do anything to protect.
- Ture Xans: Zayra's best friend
- Drakari Cruel: "Drake" Darling's younger brother and an assassin.
- Annalise Cruel: "Lise" Darling's younger sister.
- Caillen de Orczy: Formerly Caillen Dagan before his true identity was known. Good friend to Darling; married to Desideria. A former smuggler; now the Exeterian crowned prince. Works with the Sentella.
- Desideria Denarii de Orczy: Caillen's wife. Qillaq princess.
- Dancer Hauk: aka Akuma (demon); friend to Darling and a Sentella member. Andarian. Hates his name and prefers to be referred to as Hauk. He has a body size that is bigger than Darling.
- Nykyrian Quiakides: aka Nemesis founder of the Sentella; Andarion prince and good friend to Darling. Married to Kiara
- Dr. Syn Dagan-Wade: aka Shinikami (death wolf); aka Sheridan Belask; aka Sheridan Digger Wade. Friend to Darling and Sentella member. Doctor. Married to Shahara.
- Shahara Dagan: "Shay" Married to Syn. Retired Seaxe who is a medical doctor
- Jayne Erixour: aka Shinikuri (the spirit of death); Sentella member.
- Nero Scalera: A rare full breed Trisani with very powerful psychic powers was imprisoned with Syn as children. Works with the Sentella. Last of the Trisani Ruling Family.
- Lord Ryn: Darling's older half-brother. Tavali pirate.
- Lord Arturo: Darling's uncle. Murdered Darling's father.
