Unique and intriguing. One of the best books I've read in a while.

I really enjoyed this book. It is my boyfriends favorite and one of the first Neil Gaiman where it didn't feel like everything was copied off another author.

I loved it--love what Gaiman has to say about where our society pays complete attention to, so much so that it becomes a worship. Shadow is a fantastic character... I enjoyed all of the characters, even the so-called villains (who were only fulfilling their own prophecies)!

Great book. So much happens in this book as you wander with Shadow through an unbelievable world that is intertwinded with ours. I feel I will need to go back and reread this book again to gain all the magic that is in this one lovely book.

Not going to lie this was not an easy read, but it was very enjoyable and for any one with an interest in mythology this is a great book.

I had not yet read anything by Neil Gaiman, but was recommended to do so by several friends. I'm glad I did! The storyline of this book is very different than a lot of the things I have read in the past, but it really kept moving and gave me some food for thought! I'm going to go find more by this author.

I just finished American Gods by Neil Gaiman. It was fantastic and very enjoyable. It had some of the best character development I have seen in quite a while. The plot twist were powerful and very surprising. I highly recommend it if you haven't read it yet.

Now that I have started on Neil Gaiman, I thought I would read another novel of his. I read his Sandman Graphic novels a few months ago, and if you have not read them, please do so immediately! American Gods is a superlative read, it is a big fat book, with a complex plot (enough last minute twists and turns) and peopled by an odd assortment of characters. It is at the same time, a romance, a murder mystery, a thriller, and a comment on the "soul" of America, as seen by a wry outsider. True to the tradition of America, it is also a wonderful road trip, taking us to small towns in the heartland and the people who live there. What makes the book so compelling, is that it operates at the mythic level, invoking Old Gods and New, and a protagonist aptly named Shadow, who has to find himself, and make choices. Gaiman situates all of this in American lore and makes a wonderful statement on what America and American could possibly mean to us, we who hold it in our hearts.

A very dynamic novel that truly questions the way we see the world. I enjoyed the storyline, the characters and the amazing protagonist.
