A fascinating novel - the Earth suddenly and inexplicably begins rotating progressively more slowly, so 24 hour days become 30 hour day, then 40 hour days and so on - this is problematic as you might imagine and everything begins to fail.

I have actually read a dozen or so "end of the world" novels, mostly sci-fi, but this one, which I wouldn't even classify as sci-fi, is unique as it is written by a woman and has a twelve year old girl as the narrator - so as the physical world is changing for the worst the narrator is changing, becoming an adult, falling in love, dealing with junior high cliques, and so on. Brilliant!
