A good read for the "coming of age" aspect as well as the changing world and dealing with the consequences of the slowing of the earth. Not one cheerful moment in the book...and yet I enjoyed it.

Sigh...it's always a difficult read when there is little hope for the characters in a book. Not sure why it's called The Age of Miracles, unless it's that the characters all really need one.

I really enjoyed this one. Cool perspective on life as we know it.

Meh, this book had potential but there were too many parts that I found lacking and just plain boring.

This book was just brilliantly done. It's slow-paced and contemplative, so if you're looking for action-packed YA dystopia fiction, check out the "Divergent" or "Legend" series instead. But this book is beautiful in its slowness, and in how the overall mundane elements of life and growing up are reflected against the catastrophic world changes. Many reviews I read were frustrated by the ending, which is understandable--but at the same time, the ending fits perfectly with the book itself, which is all about the unknowingness and unknowable of life, adolescence, love, relationships, friendships, nature, the world itself. Walker's science is perfectly credible--far-fetched and yet so immediately believable as to be very, very scary. I truly enjoyed this book.

A disturbing premise, a sad book, and the ending was terrible.

Meh. This is done better elsewhere. What I liked: well, not much. What I didn't like: The characters seemed flat and lacking in any real dimension. The mom was obsessive and worried, the daughter, Julia, seemed much older than her 11 years, especially in her relationship with Seth (very cerebral relationship). What bothered me most was the lack of reason behind anything that was happening. How easy for the author. This major disaster occurs - the days lengthening up to 70 hours or so - but with no reason. Convenient. And there wasn't really an ending. We find that Julia is relating this all through memory and things haven' gotten better. OK. This idea has been done much better elsewhere - think On the Beach (OK, so that' nuclear disaster, but similar theme).

I read this on iPad in preparation for a book discussion in the fall.
Interesting premise where each day gets 1 hour shorter or 1 hour longer and how people adjust to the impact of such changes on their lives. I like The Dog Star better but this book looked at the end of the world so to speak from a different perspective. Both very interesting in the ways they approach the topic. You have to suspend your belief system to accept the premises presented in either book. Didn't think I would like them but ended up liking both of them.

Very good! I enjoyed it. Definitely worth a read since it is so short.
