• Maximum Ride (Max): This is a girl that can really get on your nerves. Witty, caring, and meaner than a rabid pitbull, Max is the brown eyed, brown haired Super Mutant. She leads her flock one wing stroke at a time. She has the ability to fly at a supersonic speed.
• Fang: Former member of the flock who now has his own "gang" which includes Max's clone Maya. He has the power to turn "invisible" and breathe under water. He is very quiet and often wears black. He is in love with Max and later rejoins the flock.
• Angel: The youngest flock member who has the creepy ability to read minds, breathe underwater, and sometimes control people. Angel has tried to take over the flock a few times before because she convinced herself she'd be a better leader than Max. She has a dog named Total.
• Dylan: Max's "perfect other half" who was created to be with Max. He was brought to the flock by Jeb, and turned into a great fighter by watching Max. His powers include seeing things from super long distances all the way into space. He loves Max.
• Iggy: Another member of the flock, who is blind. He makes bombs for fun with his best friend, and flock brother, Gazzy. Iggy can sense the color of objects just by touching them and can see things only if they're against a pure white background (eg. the snow in Antarctica) he is extremely good at cooking.
• The Gasman (Gazzy): Iggy's best friend and Angel's brother, he has a little bit of a gas problem (do not stand downwind). He can perfectly mimic other people's voices, which he does occasionally just to annoy Max.
• Total: Angel's talking dog who has to develop wings. Who they broke out of the institute. Married to Akila, an Alaskan Malamute or Samoyed. (Breed changes in various books)
• Maya: Max's clone who is part of "Fang's gang" who desperately wants to be seen as different from Max.
• Holden Squibb: Another member of "Fang's gang" who can grow back limbs similar to a starfish. Believes in Fang. Nickname from Ratchet and rest of gang is Starfish. Unusually fast healer.
• Jeb Batchelder: Max's somewhat evil/crazy dad. Whitecoat.
• Ella Martinez: Max's younger half-sister. The daughter of Valenica Martinez. Believed to have a crush on Iggy.
• Ratchet: A member of "Fang's gang" with heightened senses.
• Kate: A member of "Fang's gang" with super strength. Star's best friend. She doesn't talk much. She is very attractive.
• Star: A member of "Fang's gang" with super speed. She burns through tons of calories. Kate's best friend with a loud mouth.
• Akila: Total's mate, she lives with her owner most of the year so she doesn't see Total or the Flock much.
• Nudge: Very into fashion and the idea of a normal life. Part of the flock.
• Ari: Max's deceased half brother.
• Valencia Martinez: Max's mom/cell donor (Max was a test tube hatchling after all). Veterinarian. One of the good guys!
• Dr. Gunther-Hagen: The rather nasty creator of Dylan.
• Dr. Gunther-Hans: An evil scientist who experiments on living things and creates many "failures" as well as successes. He also created Dylan and wants to kill Fang because of his DNA.
• Dr. Williams: Biology teacher in Newt. Gives Dylan a creepy message....
• Mark: Member of the Doomsday Group
• Max II: Max's clone. Goes by the name of Maya. Likes to separate herself from Max. Has a thing for Fang.
• Sloan: A normal boy at Newton who Nudge has a crush on. Spreads rumors about her after Max prohibited them from "going to Sloan's place". He saw Erasers, which influenced the rumors.
• Voice: Creepy Voice that speaks to the minds of the whole flock. Max always listens to it no matter what.
