It beautifully describes the confusions that go on in his mind throughout the tough times.I found it much more serious and thought-provoking than his other novels.”

All the characters in the book are very humane, realistic and familiar. More than once we com across some characters in the book voicing their feelings about the freedom struggle and Gandhi's feelings. It is interesting to note that Life went on as usual for the common Indian during british rule , second world war and freedom struggle. Sriram's character in the book has been used very cleverly by the author to picturize the societal trends during the last days of india's strugglke for freedom. ”
