- Alex Nolan: He is a residential real estate developer, youngest brother of Mark and Sam. Recently he went through a nasty divorce and seems to have a drinking problem. He has dark brown-black hair with ice gray eyes. He is hired to work at Zoe's house for Emma.
- Zoë Hoffmann: Co-owner of a B&B in Friday Harbor called Artist's Point with her cousin Justine, handling the cooking, grocery shopping and food orders. Divorced from her high school best friend, Chris Kelly. Friend of Lucy. She has blond, curly hair and blue eyes and her cooking is magical.
- The Ghost: He is a male ghost who inhabited Sam's house at Rainshadow Road and is attached to Alex for an unknown reason.
- Sam Nolan: Winemaker and owner of Rainshadow Vineyard, Mark and Alex's brother. He's helping raise their niece, Holly.
- Lucy Marinn: Sam's girlfriend, a glass artist.
- Justine Hoffman: Zöe's cousin, who is the co-owner of Artist's Point, a bed and breakfast. She has dark hair and brown eyes.
- Emma Hoffman: Zöe's grandmother who raised her. Formerly Emmaline Stewart. Zöe calls her Upsie.
- Mark Nolan: He is the oldest of the Nolan brothers. He is married to Maggie and is Holly's guardian.
- Maggie Nolan: Mark's wife and owner of the Magic Mirror, a toy store.
- Holly Nolan: Alex, Sam and Mark's niece. Her mother, Victoria, was killed in a car accident and she now lives with Mark and Maggie.
- Darcy Nolan: She is Alex's ex-wife.
- Jessica and Alan Nolan: Alex, Sam and Mark's parents, deceased. They were both alcoholics.
- Chris Kelly: Zöe's ex-husband
- Byron: Zöe's white Persian cat
- James Hoffman: Zöe's father
- Renfield: Sam's dog
- Colette Lin: She is Emma's elder care consultant.
- Gavin: Member of Alex's work crew
