Liked It“I recommended this book to a customer who was probably around 30. She enthusiastically recommended "The Devil Wears Prada". I hate to think about a whole generation of women who are missing out on Tama Janowitz' work and who think "The Devil Wears Prada" is awesome.” see full review » see other reviews » |
Didn’t Like It“oh how NYC art scene and I have changed! this book sadly does not carry the same enjoyment as when I first read it.” see full review » see other reviews » |

That being said, she has a decent enough control of the language. However, the shock-value soon fades. Where are the sympathetic characters, the plot, etc., which I suppose becomes my criticism of her aforementioned cohorts as well.”
“I tried, I really did. I'd been meaning to read this book since it came out away back in the 80's but I was dissapointed. Disjunct stories of starving artists in New York that start to vaugely connect by the end. Perhaps the overall theme was that glorfication of New York City as the center of all cool hipness. No wonder I didn't like it.”

Like many great books-to-film, the Bernadette Peters movie version is VERY different, but also a good time. I really like this book. It's all over the map yet stays with you long after you've read it. ”
