“Once again Cornwell delivers an exceptional Scarpetta novel. I often wonder just why it is that I have not read this series book by book rather than just picking one up here and there. She never fails to impress me with her writing and imagination. She creates such life like characters, that you sometimes forget you're reading a work of fiction. Scarpetta, Lucy, Marino, they all jump off the page at you. You find yourself terribly irritated with Marino time after time, you just want to hug Lucy and tell her everything's going to work itself out, and most of all, you want to stand behind Scarpetta and dare someone to mess with her.
And she keeps the twists coming. Just when you think you've figured out who the villian is, even if you don't yet know the why, she takes you in a totally different direction and you're surprised with yet a new bad guy. That's just how I love my mysteries......a true mystery up until the very end.
Although I've always been left with a desire to read other Scarpetta novels this one has me really wanting to read the next book. Scarpetta's life, it seems, is going to go in a very new direction. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book.......now, if I could just find out just exactly what the next one is titled.
Thwarting an attack by a suspected serial killer puts Virginia's Chief Medical Examiner Kay Scarpetta in the harsh glare of the spotlight. As her personal and professional lives come under suspicion, she discovers that the so-called Werewolf muders may have extended to New York City and into the darkest corners of her past. A formidable prosecutor, a female assistant district attorney from New York, is brought into the case-and Scarpetta must stuggle to make what she knows to be the truth prevail against mounting and unnerving evidence to the contrary. Tested in every way, she turns inward to ask, Where do you go when there is nowhere left?”
“I enjoyed this much more than Black Notice and looked forward to her next book.”

Now that I've known Kay Scarpetta these twenty years, I see more nuance in the character and the plot. I love these books; Kay is one of my favorite people. Makes me want to cook Italian...”

Although I always like to spend time with Cornwell's characters, I felt myself yearning more for a traditional "who-done-it" plot.”
