  • Connor Lassiter: Aka Akron AWOL and Elvis Robert Mullard. The official leader of The Graveyard after Unwind. He escaped Happy Jack with Risa and is trying to keep control of the slowly falling apart system of the Graveyard. He's had control and trust issues.
  • Risa Ward: Risa was disabled in the previous book. Because of this, she can not be unwound and is protected. Risa is the medic at the Graveyard and is in love with Connor.
  • Levi "Lev" Calder: The Clapper who didn't clap. Lev is a fourteen boy who is under constant watch from the public because of his actions.
  • Camus 'Cam' Comprix: A boy made entirely out of different Unwinds. He is a product of the Proactive Citizenry.
  • Mason Michael Starkey: A new AWOL who is a stork. He is a magician and is a troublemaker similar to Conner in the previous book. He is cunning and understands how to place himself in the position of power. He favors Stork kids and feels like the odds were stacked against him.
  • Miracolina Roselli: A tithe who was 'saved' from her unwinding by Lev. She has a firm belief in her unwind will save other peoples lives and seems obsessed over it. She was conceived to save her older brother by donating her bone marrow. Her name means Miracle in Italian.
  • Nelson: The Juvey cop that Connor escaped from in Unwind. Bent on vengeance, he's become a parts pirate in hopes of finding Connor.
  • Roberta: The person responsible for Cam. She selected all his parts for the sole purpose of making an ideal being.
  • Hayden: A seventeen-year-old who stays on at the Graveyard to help Connor. He's in charge of communications.

  • Unwind: A person scheduled to be unwound. When you are unwound, your body parts are salvaged and reattached to other people in need of them. This is a way of you no dying because all of your body is 'living' in others.
  • Tithe: one-tenth paid as a religious sacrifice. In Unwind, a tithe is in the form of people. They are raised for the sole purpose of being unwound.
  • AWOL: The term used for people who run away from being unwound.
  • Storking: When a mother feels she can't take care of her newborn baby, she places it on the doorway of a random person and legally the family there is now responsible for the baby, unless the mother is seen getting rid of the baby, then she must keep it. This is a legal act.
  • Clapper: A suicide bomber; uses a chemical injected in their blood stream that explodes when they clap their hands.
