- Gwendolyn Eleanor Robison: a magazine editor, married to Karl. She is the protagonist and one of the five friends. Even though married to Karl Flores, she uses her maiden name of Robinson.
- Sean Halloran: The leader of the group. One of the Halloran brothers. He's the steady one who went into PR.
- Gordon "Go Go" Halloran: The youngest of the five friends, wild and unpredictable. Little brother to Sean and Tim.
- Mickey Wyckoff: The other girl in the five friends, grew up to become an airline stewardiss.
- Tim Halloran: The oldest Halloran boy, another of the five friends.
- Dr. Karl Flores: Married to Gwen. A successful surgeon but self centered.
- Dr. Clem Robinson: Gwen's father. He is one of the people who checked Leaken Park after the incident and it is because of his fall when he is elderly, that Gwen comes home to care for him.
- Timothy Halloran Sr.: The father of the Halloran boys and another person who checked Leaken Park after the incident.
- Miller Robinson: Gwen's older brother.
- Fiona Robinson: Gwen's older sister.
- Doris Halloran: Mother of the Halloran boys, wife of Tim Sr. A long suffering housewife.
- Rita: Mickey's mother.
